David Glaser, Wildwood’s first mayor and a former chief financial officer for the Rockwood School District, died Oct. 22 from an apparent head injury following an accidental fall while he was riding a bicycle. He was 65, the St. Louis County Police Department reported.
The Police Department got a call at approximately 10:10 a.m. about the accident, and when officers arrived at the scene, at Melrose Road and Hwy. T in Wildwood, paramedics were assisting Glaser, who was unconscious, the report said.
Glaser was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.
No vehicles were involved in the accident, the police reported.
Glaser, who lived in St. Louis, was appointed Wildwood’s first mayor after it was incorporated in 1995. He served as mayor until 1996 when Ron Marcantano became the city’s first elected mayor, Wildwood City Administrator Steve Cross said.
“He was a very good mayor,” Cross said.
Glaser was the CFO for Rockwood from February 1996 through November 2009, district officials said.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of David Glaser,” Rockwood officials said in a written statement. “He will be remembered for his academic and civic contributions as a Rockwood graduate and former central office administrator, as well as an advocate for all students in his role with VICC (Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation). Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and everyone who knew and loved him.”
Glaser was chief executive officer at VICC since 2009, according to his LinkedIn profile.
