The Festus R-6 School District will not hold classes Thursday, Jan. 11, because a project will be underway to clean out water lines at Festus Elementary School, 1500 Midmeadow Lane, and the surrounding area. That work will result in water service being shut off that day.
Festus school officials used social media to announce the cancellation of classes. They also said after-school, extracurricular activities that day “will go on as scheduled.”
The city of Festus will pay $20,000 to American Pipeline Solutions in Hackensack, N.J., to complete the work. The company will use a technique called “Ice Pigging” to clean out water pipes in a neighborhood around Edgewood and Midmeadow lanes, where residents have had a recurring problem with discolored water. The process sends an ice slurry through pipes to remove residue.
