Festus High School principal Diana Allen has submitted her resignation effective at the end of the school year, Superintendent Link Luttrell reported to the school community Wednesday afternoon (March 7).

Luttrell sent an email further stating that Allen’s letter of resignation to the Board of Education also requests “she be granted leave the remainder of the school year for personal reasons.”

Luttrell said he had no additional information to relay from Allen, but praised her performance as the Festus High principal, a post she has held since July 2013.

“During her five years as principal, she’s enhanced many academic programs,” he said. “We wish her well.”

He said with her departure, assistant principal Joel Roth and assistant principal/activities director Eric Allen (no relation to Diana Allen) will lead the high school the rest of the school year, which has less than a third left. The final student attendance day is scheduled for May 21, barring any additional snow days, he reported.

“Mr. Roth and Mr. Allen will handle the day-to-day activities at the high school, along with the staff,” Luttrell said.

He said district officials will immediately begin seeking a permanent principal for the 2018-2019 school year. He said his goal is to have a recommendation to submit to the Board of Education at its April meeting.

Festus High School has an enrollment of 814 students.
