Influence Church in Festus will hand out free boxes of produce at about 6 p.m. Sunday evening (July 5) outside the old LaJade Theatre, 125 E. Main St., where the church holds its services. Each box contains a week’s worth of fresh vegetables and fruit, said church representative Scott Gerken.
He said the food is for anyone in need.
Gerken said the church will give more than one box to those who agree to distribute some of the food to others.
“We want to be a blessing so others can be a blessing,” he said.
Gerken said those who want some of the food are asked to drive to the church and wait for it to be placed in their vehicles.
“Cars typically are waiting on the north side of the street,” Gerken said. “The car drives up and (the driver) tells us how many boxes they would like and we place them in their trunk, back seat, or wherever the driver would like. We do get some people who walk up and grab a box as well.”
For the past month, the church has been handing out boxes of produce after its Sunday service, which starts at 5 p.m., Gerken said.
He said the church will continue the food distribution throughout the summer.
“We have been giving over 300 boxes away each week,” Gerken said.
