Monkeys, goats, llamas, camels and tigers are all a part of the Jungle Safari that’s been visiting area Buchheit stores.
The exotic animal petting zoo visits each of the eight Buchheit stores annually, and currently is at the Herculaneum store.
It’s open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today (Oct. 12) through Saturday (Oct. 16).
Last week, the Jungle Safari was at the House Springs store.
“This is a free petting zoo,” owner Robert Engesser said.
Anyone can come see most of the animals for free, but some activities cost a fee.
“We have an adult white tiger that we charge $1 to see,” Engesser said.
There are also camel rides and pony rides for $5. Photos with the animals, including monkeys, are also available for a fee. Guests also can purchase food and feed some of the animals.
Each evening at 7:30 p.m., the big cats will be fed by their handlers.
“It’s a sight to see,” said Engesser, who invites the public to attend.
The Jungle Safari, owned by Engesser and his family, generates income to support the family’s exotic animal farm in Florida. The farm breeds and raises animals for zoos and other animal attractions across the country, Engesser said.
