Although many aspects of life have changed under the coronavirus pandemic, one thing remains the same as Veterans Day approaches. We want to honor those Jefferson County residents in all branches of the military who have put their lives on the line in defense of our country.
Leader Publications will recognize those who have served with a Salute to Veterans tribute in the Nov. 12 issue of the paper.
Veterans, their family members and friends are encouraged to share stories and photos from any branch of the military, any era, wartime or peacetime, living or deceased. Veterans featured in former years may be included, but please submit different stories and photographs than those sent in before.
Deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. The paper will publish as many photos and stories as space allows, with priority given to first-time submitters. The remaining photos and stories may appear on the Leader website.
You must include your name and phone number for your submission to be eligible for publication.
■ Photos may be submitted in either print or digital form. “Then” and “now” photos are especially welcome.
■ Identify the people in the photograph and give the date when it was taken, if known.
■ Include the service person’s hometown and year of birth.
■ Provide the military branch and years served, plus any details about foreign or domestic posts, specialties or training.
■ Add details – funny stories, sad stories, romantic stories, heroic stories.
Mail photos to Leader Veterans Tribute, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028, or email them to news@leaderpublications.biz. Although the newspaper office is closed to the public, curbside drop-off of print photos or other physical materials is available. Just call to arrange a time to bring the photo to the Leader office at 503 N. Second St. in Festus. Physical photos that include a self-addressed, stamped envelope will be mailed back after processing; others will be held for pickup.
