Three people are in the race for two available seats on the Valle Ambulance District’s Board of Directors in the April 4 election.
Tammie Scullin is seeking her sixth three-year term on the board, and she is joined in the race by Patrick C. Bingman and Jason Jarvis.
Bingman was appointed to the board to serve the remaining term of a seat held by Nate Myers, who died in the middle of his second term.
Neither Bingman nor Jarvis returned a Leader candidate questionnaire.
Board members are paid $100 per meeting up to 14 meetings per year. The board usually meets once a month.
The district serves the Hillsboro and De Soto areas.
SCULLIN, 62, of the De Soto area is a director for the Centene Corp. in Clayton. She and her husband, John, have two children and four grandchildren. She graduated in 1978 from Arcadia Valley High School.
What experience do you have (elected office, civic organizations, volunteer work, etc.) that might serve you well in this position?
Scullin: I have served on the Valle Ambulance board for 16 years and the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District board for 16 years. I am an active member of First Baptist Church of De Soto and volunteer for the Upward basketball program there.
What are the biggest problems facing the district and how would you address them?
Scullin: Valle is not facing problems other than the typical challenges of any other tax-based public entity. We continue to provide outstanding emergency medical care to our residents and visitors while practicing fiscal responsibility and quality emergency medical care.
Why should voters elect you to this position? List your goals, if elected.
Scullin: I have the public safety board experience and business acumen that allows me to contribute to a well-run organization. My primary goal is to continue providing the highest quality emergency medical care to our residents and visitors. I will continue to balance fiscal responsibility while providing these vital services and ensure that we are compensating our employees fairly. Other goals are to help navigate the ever-changing insurance regulations and reporting compliance to keep our reimbursement rates high and maintain a fleet of reliable, highly advanced ambulances and medical equipment.
