Peaceful Village residents will decide on April 2 whether to dissolve the village.

The ballot measure requires a simple majority to pass.

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Peaceful Village had a population of 95, and about 67 of those residents are registered to vote.

Peaceful Village was formed in 2008 under the leadership of the late Jack Walters, who owned a church and camp on 78 acres on Antire Road near High Ridge.

Job Jerome, whose house on Antire Road is just outside Peaceful Village, spearheaded the effort to see the dissolution of the village. He said he circulated a petition asking for Peaceful Village to be dissolved because the village leaders are allowing the construction of a sober living home next to his home.

The village’s elected mayor, Daniel Ross III, also is pastor at New Hope Fellowship Church in Peaceful Village and is an investor in BRR Investments, which is building the sober living home.

Jerome said the facility, which is in the village while his home is not, would not meet Jefferson County’s codes.

Ross said BRR went through all the proper channels to build the sober living center, adding that Jefferson County codes do not apply in the village.

The mayor said he hopes residents vote against dissolving the village.

“If the people want to dissolve the village, that is the will of the people,” he added.
