election 2021

Candidates may begin filing for the April 6, 2021, election on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Filings will close Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Those who file will be seeking to fill open seats on boards that govern cities, school districts and fire, ambulance, water, sewer and road districts.

The Jefferson College Board of Trustees has two seats up for election.

However, Jefferson County 911 Dispatch and the Jefferson County Health Department have no board seats up for election in April.

Not all fire districts have open seats on the ballot each year, and this time around there will be no board seat elections for the Antonia, Cedar Hill, Dunklin, Goldman, Jefferson R-7 and Rock Community fire protection districts.

The deadline for entities to place measures on the ballot is Jan. 26. The last day to register to vote in the election is March 10.

Typically, candidates file for open seats during regular business hours at the offices of the various government entities, although some candidates are asked to file at the Jefferson County Administration Center in Hillsboro. Those who are interested in filing are advised to check for possible holiday closures.

The following is a list of local office holders whose terms expire in April. Incumbents – those who were elected to the seats they hold – are denoted with an (I). Those who were appointed to fill vacancies on boards are noted, as well as the name of the person they replaced, when the information was available.
