A 62-year-old Festus man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 30, when he was driving a pickup on Hwy. 67 near Cash Lane north of Bonne Terre in St. Francois County and struck a MoDOT truck, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 12:45 p.m., Michael A. Atkins was driving a southbound 2018 Toyota Tacoma when he allegedly failed to yield to the 2018 Freightliner 114SD MoDOT truck and struck the rear of its towed unit. Harvey E. Sullins, 35, of Middle Brook was driving the southbound MoDOT truck, which reportedly had its caution lights and signals activated, the report said.
Atkins was seriously injured and taken by St. Francois County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
According to the report, Atkins was not wearing a seat belt, and Sullins was wearing one.
The Toyota was extensively damaged, and the truck had minor damage, the report said.
