Plans are underway for Discount Tire to open a store at 1198 W. Gannon Blvd. in Festus, where a Tanglefoot Steakhouse used to operate.
Discount Tire, a national chain that sells tires, wheels and related items and offers service appointments, plans to tear down the building that used to house the Tanglefoot restaurant and construct a new building for its store.
Prior to the Tanglefoot restaurant, the building was home for many years to a Dohack’s restaurant and after that a Cisco’s restaurant, city officials said.
A public relations firm representing Discount Tire said the company’s target opening date for the Festus location is May 2023.
According to company literature, Discount Tire stores typically are 7,000 square feet, with six state-of-the-art service bays and a 1,300-square foot showroom.
On Monday night, the Festus City Council voted unanimously to approve a request from Discount Tire to rezone the Festus property from business B-2 to B-4.
“B-4 has more uses and includes the intended use of automotive repair, which B-2 does not,” said Matt Unrein, Festus Public Works director.
The Festus Planning and Zoning Commission had voted unanimously July 15 to recommend the City Council approve the rezoning.
