Visitors to the De Soto Senior Expo will have the chance to win a grand prize trip to several Perryville-area landmarks, along with lunch or dinner at a Perryville restaurant.
The expo is set for 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 20, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hwy. E in De Soto and will feature a full schedule of entertainment, information and activities for those 50 and older. Admission and parking are free, and free coffee and doughnuts will be served while the supply lasts.
Visitors to the expo are encouraged to enter a drawing for a grand-prize trip to Perryville. The winner and three guests will enjoy a personalized, guided tour of the town’s Missouri National Veterans Memorial, as well as a tour of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and a visit to the American Tractor Museum. The prize also includes a meal for four at Mary Jane Burgers and Brew in downtown Perryville.
The prize package may be scheduled on one day or broken up into multiple visits.
The veterans memorial contains a full-size replica of the Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C.
“It (the memorial) is so impressive and so moving,” Leader assistant publisher Peggy Scott said. “For people who may not have the chance to travel to Washington D.C., this is an opportunity to experience how moving the Wall is, what an impact it has. The memorial buildings and grounds are so well done; everything is just top-notch. It’s a little cliche to say it, but this is a hidden treasure close to home.”
A special section will appear in the April 14 issue of the Leader with stories and schedules about the Senior Expo and entries from the “Way to Go” photo contest, for which readers were encouraged to send in travel photos. The winner, drawn at random from among all entries, will receive $200.
