Several De Soto organizations have teamed up to collect donations for victims of Hurricane Ida that struck Louisiana on Aug. 29.
Collections will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 12) and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday (Sept. 13) at Amvets Post 48, 1075 Amvets Drive, in De Soto.
The organizations intend to pack up the donated items on Tuesday (Sept. 14) and ship them Wednesday (Sept. 15).
Other than the Amvets Post 48 and Auxiliary, other organizations helping with the donation drive includes Elks Lodge 689, Knights of Columbus 1185 and VFW Post 1831 and its Auxiliary.
“Any donation can help,” Amvets Post 48 Auxiliary President Pamela Sampson-King said.
She said organizers are seeking gift cards – not cash – for the effort, as well as personal care items, hand sanitizer, small Bibles, trash bags, nonperishable snacks, children’s games, towels, wash rags, blankets, gloves, socks, ponchos and small first-aid kits.
