Crystal City Pool

The Crystal City Pool will open for the season Saturday.

The Crystal City Pool, 1400 Dick Cook Drive, is slated to open Saturday for the 2021 season, a return to a Memorial Day weekend opening after a late start last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pool manager Michelle Cobb said the Crystal City Pool opened during the first week of June in 2020.

“We were one of the few pools around open last year,” she said. “People came here from all over.”

This year public swim hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Adult swim hours are 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays through Fridays.

Admission is $5 for those 10 and older; $3 for those 3-9 years old; and free for those 2 and younger. Those 65 and older also may swim for free, except during adult swims, which costs $3.

While there have been reports about a shortage of lifeguards across the country, the Crystal City Pool has a solid stable of lifeguards, Cobb said.

“We have 10 lifeguards this year,” she said. “We had eight last year, but thought we might want more this year.”

Regulars to the pool will notice several improvements at the pool since last season, Cobb said.

“The pool and the locker rooms have been painted,” she said. “It looks really sharp. We have a brand-new slide and a new diving board.”

The pool also will bring back some programs not offered in 2020, she said.

“We are going to have swimming lessons again this year,” Cobb said. “We also have water fitness lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
