Crystal City Elementary School Art Walk organizers said they hope to see a big crowd show up to see the student creations on display from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in front of businesses on Bailey Road.

“We’re celebrating the students’ art. It’s their time to shine,” said Kira Baker, Crystal City Elementary art educator.

She said the art show is being held because last year’s Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the children didn’t have the chance to show off their art at the fair like they normally do.

“This was a way for the students to show their artwork,” Baker said. “They were thrilled to be able to show their works.”

The Art Walk will be held from 304-320 Bailey Road in front of the following group of businesses, which for the event is being called the Old Towne Merchants – The Foundry, Neighborhood Grocery, Twin City Treasures, Old Towne Furniture, C&S Studio and Gale Bliss Art.

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will have artwork in the show.

“It’s a variety of two-dimensional art,” she said. “There are some drawings. There are some paintings. It’s an exhibition, not a competition. You support them by coming to view their artworks.”

Bliss, also an event organizer, said she enjoys being involved in the event.

“We did it last fall and the kids just loved it,” she said. “The community loved it.”
