west nile virus

The Jefferson County Health Department has found a third sample of adult mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus this year in Jefferson County.

The latest positive sample was collected on July 25 in Imperial. The two previous positive samples were collected at the end of June in Arnold and in Kimmswick.

The Health Department encourages residents throughout the county to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites and to prevent (or at least minimize) population growth in mosquitoes.

Some protection measures include using insect repellent containing 20-50 percent DEET or Picaridin, wearing light-colored clothing, and removing standing water sources.
