Jefferson County Clerk Jeannie Goff warned today, March 5, that her office was notified of bogus text messages sent to several people claiming they must reregister to vote.
The texts say something similar to “REMINDER. [Name] must re-register to vote when you move but public records say you’re not registered at [address],” Goff said in a statement made on social media.
Goff said these text messages are not from the Clerk’s Office, and her office is in no way affiliated with the organization distributing them.
“While Missouri law does require voters to update their voter registration if they move, our office does not send unsolicited text messages regarding voter registration status,” Goff said.
To check voter registration status, visit the Secretary of State’s website, sos.mo.gov, and click on the Register to Vote tab.
Goff said those with questions about their voter registration status, or those who need to update their address, should contact the Clerk’s Office, 729 Maple St., in Hillsboro. The office’s phone number is 636-797-5486.
“Our staff will be happy to assist you and ensure your voter registration information is accurate,” Goff said.
