Jefferson College Board of Trustees members have extended President Dena McCaffrey’s contract by a year, to June 30, 2023.

The board voted 6-0 during a Jan. 14 closed meeting to extend her contract.

However, the board has not yet set her salary for the next school year. Her current salary is $170,000.

“Dr. McCaffrey has done a wonderful job during her first year of service as president, especially with working around the pandemic,” board president Steve Meinberg said. “The board and staff are very pleased to have her on board.”

McCaffrey took over as the president on July 1, 2020, upon the retirement of Raymond Cummiskey, who had been the college’s president since 2009. McCaffrey had worked for the college for 13 years at that point, including the previous year assisting Cummiskey as she learned the position.

She is the first female president of Jefferson College.

McCaffrey, 51, of Arnold said she has enjoyed her first year as president even with the challenges of the

COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m glad they continue to have confidence in my ability,” she said. “We have a great team of employees working together for our students and the community.

“I’m hopeful we can get beyond the pandemic next year and continue to do great things.”
