The Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning (Aug. 21) to mark the recent installation of a $28,000 electronic sign at the Festus Public Library, 400 W. Main St.
Representatives from the Friends of the Festus Public Library, the Festus Public Library Foundation, the city of Festus and the Jefferson Memorial Community Foundation gathered for the ribbon cutting, followed by a reception in the library. The Friends of the Festus Library sponsored the reception.
The sign has boosted library use, said Carla AuBuchon, the library’s assistant director of youth services.
“It’s brought in more people,” she said. “It’s helped with our summer reading program, for sure.”
The sign was funded largely through a $20,884.50 grant from the Jefferson Memorial Community Foundation. The Festus Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Festus Public Library paid the remainder of the costs, which included an additional $2,000 for installation and permits.
The sign began operating the first week of May, officials said.
