Byrnes Mill residents - new roof

Byrnes Mill residents Doug Miller, Frank T. Selvaggio, Galen Harrison, Rick Mosley and John Scheble were on a team of volunteers who put the new roof on the pavilion.

The pavilion and the Hagemeister House, both at Byrnes Mill City Park, now have matching roofs.

Mayor Robert Kiczenski said a new red metal roof was installed on the pavilion, which looks a lot like the one already on the Hagemeister House.

“It’s more consistent across the board,” he said. “It made the Hagemeister House sort of tie into the pavilion.”

Kiczenski said the city purchased the new roof materials for about $2,300, and then saved on labor costs because he and six other volunteers worked together on Nov. 18 to install it on the pavilion at the park on Lower Byrnes Mill Road.

“Typically anything you get you’ve got to double the cost for the installation,” he said. “Probably saved $2,500 to $3,000 by just putting in a day’s worth of work.”

He said the other volunteers included Ward 2 Alderperson Galen Harrison, Police Chief Frank T. Selvaggio and city residents Terry Keehn, John Scheble, Rick Mosley and Doug Miller.

Kiczenski said an engineer inspected the pavilion before the new roof was installed to make sure it was structurally sound and worthy of investing in a new roof.

“(The new roof) will probably last at least 50 to a hundred years, a lot longer than I will be around,” he said.

Kiczenski said he believed the new roof replaced the original one.

“It’s probably at least 25 years,” he said.
