Byrnes Mill is without a code enforcement officer, City Administrator Adam Thompson said.
Dan Bailey, whom the city hired for the job on Oct. 11, 2022, recently quit, and the city will be looking to hire a new one, Thompson said.
Bailey’s last day on the job was Aug. 22 and he now works for another city in a different position, Thompson said.
He didn’t say why Bailey quit, and Bailey could not be reached for comment.
Mayor Rob Kiczenski said Bailey’s work will be split among other city departments. “Hopefully we’ll be getting him replaced very soon,” he said. “In the meantime, Bob Schmidt with Public Works will do building inspections and the Police Department will do code enforcement.”
According to the Byrnes Mill website, a code enforcement officer performs building inspections and occupancy inspections. The officer also enforces city codes.
“Right now, we are making adjustments to make sure that things that need to be done are being done,” Thompson said. “We’re working on that, and we’re going to decide on how to go about filling that position. Right now, we’re just handling it within and then kind of going from there.”
Thompson said Bailey was an asset to Byrnes Mill.
“He was a great employee,” he said. “He had done a fantastic job while he was here. He’s a great guy, a great employee, and he treated everyone fairly and did the best job he could do.
“We appreciate his service here.”
