Pot of boiling water

A boil water order was expected to remain in effect until Wednesday (May 31) for Pevely Water Department customers south of Hwy. Z.

Until it’s lifted, the Pevely Water Department advises customers to boil any water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or any activity in which it may be ingested.

The order went into effect May 26, after a major water line break was discovered in front of City Hall on Main Street, water department officials said.

The break was fixed the same day, but city officials said the boil water order could not be lifted until the Jefferson County Health Department completes two water tests. The earliest the Health Department testing can be concluded is Wednesday, officials said today (May 30).

The department also has advised customers to run the water to release air in the lines.
