Reinforcement work on the railroad trestle on Horine Road at North Street in Festus was completed Thursday (June 5).
BNSF Railway maintenance employees did the work, which started around 11:30 a.m. Thursday and was completed that afternoon.
While the work was underway, workers directed drivers through one open lane of the two-lane Horine Road while the rest of the crew installed “angles” on the trestle to provide more support, crew member Curt Evans said.
“They’re putting in angles to hold line, to hold it straight,” he said. “That makes it more secure. This trestle has been hit a lot (by drivers).”
