Most of the features at the Bay of Naples Splash Zone in Herculaneum City Park reopened on Aug. 2, city officials reported.
The water play area had been out of commission since the end of May due to equipment problems, but the recent replacement of a pump allowed the reopening of all the features, except for overhead buckets and a couple of “bubblers,” which shoot water into the air, City Administrator Jim Kasten said.
“It was open Memorial Day weekend and the problem with the pump started,” he said.
He said the water play area had been shut off ever since, although it opened briefly a few times when attempts were made to fix the problems.
Now that it mainly is reopened, the water play area’s hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Kasten said there is no set date for the Bay of Naples Splash Zone to close for the season.
“We’ve been closing it down the first week of October,” he said. “That’s not set in stone.”
The Bay of Naples Splash Zone and Kade’s Playground are at 776 Joachim Ave. in Herculaneum City Park.
Kasten said the city of Herculaneum is always seeking donations to help cover electricity and other costs to operate the Bay of Naples, which has been popular with the public.
“We appreciate donations to keep it going,” Kasten said. “There are donation boxes at the playground or they can donate at City Hall (1 Parkwood Court).”
The Bay of Naples Splash Zone debuted in August 2019. Kade’s Playground, an all-inclusive playground, opened in 2015.
