The Arnold Post Office may have a new location before the end of the year.
A postcard was sent to city residents this month about a proposal to relocate the office from 1314 Jeffco Blvd. to another Arnold location within two miles of the existing office
The postcard said because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Postal Service will not hold a public meeting about the possible move, but residents may comment about the proposal by mailing the U.S. Postal Service at PO Box 27497, Greensboro, NC 27498-1103. Letters about the possible relocation should be marked “Attention: Arnold, MO MPO Relocation.”
According to the postcard, the Post Office may move because the Postal Service may lose its lease for the current location. A memo distributed to Arnold Post Office employees that was provided to the Leader said the lease is expected to end Nov. 30.
No one with the Postal Service returned calls for comment.
The postcard and memo said the Postal Service is looking at leasing a 10,600-square-foot building that has more than 81 parking spots.
In addition, the memo said the Postal Service also is considering finding 85,000-square-feet of land to construct a new office on or possibly splitting its operations, with the retail portion of the office moving to a 3,200-square-foot building that has more than 21 parking spots and the rest of the operations moving into an 8,200-square-foot building with more than 61 parking spots.
The memo also said the Postal Service would seek help to find potential new locations.
