Arnold Post Office to close Jan. 31

The current Arnold Post Office will close on Jan. 31.

The Arnold Post Office will remain at its current location for at least six more months.

Vincent Swanson, the location’s supervisor, said the U.S. Postal Service has extended its lease at 1314 Jeffco Blvd. through May.

He said a new location in Arnold is being sought, but no sites had been found as of Nov. 16.

A postcard was sent to city residents in June about a proposal to relocate the office within 2 miles of the existing office.

The postcard said the Post Office needed to find a new location because the Postal Service may lose the lease at its current location.

A memo distributed to Arnold Post Office employees in June said the lease for the Jeffco Boulevard location was expected to end Nov. 30.

The postcard and memo said the Postal Service is looking at leasing a 10,600-square-foot building that has more than 81 parking spots.

The memo also said the Postal Service is considering finding 85,000 square feet of land to construct a new office on.

Another option would be to split the operations and retail portions of the office, with the retail portion moving into a 3,200-square foot building that has more than 21 parking spots and the operations portion moving into an 8,200-square-foot building with more than 61 parking spots.
