A motorcyclist was injured on July 6 when he struck a deer on Hwy. B near Homewood Drive in Dittmer, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 6:15 p.m., John E. Reece, 60, of Valley Park was riding a northbound 2007 Harley-Davidson when he struck a deer in the roadway and was ejected from the motorcycle, the report said.

Reece was moderately injured and taken by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.

As of July 8, Reece was in satisfactory condition, a hospital spokesman said.

According to the report, Reece was not wearing a Missouri Department of Transportation approved safety helmet, and the motorcycle was extensively damaged.
