A 13-year-old Cedar Hill boy was killed and three other teenagers were injured Sunday evening (Sept. 5) in an off-road accident on Engledow Road south of Upper Blackwell Road south of De Soto in Jefferson County near the St. Francois County line, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The accident happened at about 6:05 p.m., and three other teens were involved the accident, including a 13-year-old Hillsboro boy, a 16-year-old Hillsboro boy and a 17-year-old Hillsboro boy.

Highway Patrol spokesman Dallas Thompson said the crash is still under investigation, but according to the preliminary report today (Sept. 7), the agency was reporting that the 17-year-old was driving the Can-Am Commander utility vehicle north on Engledow Road and lost control of the UTV, which began sliding and ran off the left side of the road, where the left rear side of the vehicle struck a tree. Then the UTV continued on and the front of it struck another tree, according to the report.

The Cedar Hill boy was among three passengers on the UTV, the report said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Valle Ambulance personnel.

The 13-year-old Hillsboro boy, the 16-year-old and the 17-year-old were taken by Valle Ambulance to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.

The Highway Patrol did not release the names of the teens involved in the accident because they are all juveniles.
