motorcycle crash

Two men were injured in a motorcycle crash on July 26 on I-55 north of West Main Street in Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 6:20 p.m., Richard J. Sanders, 61, of Bloomfield was riding a southbound 2020 Harley Davidson when he struck an object in the road and veered to the right, the report said. Douglas R. Hager, 52, of Panama Beach, Fla., riding another southbound 2020 Harley Davidson, steered left to try to avoid a collision but struck the rear of Sanders’ motorcycle, ejecting both riders.

Sanders was seriously injured and Hager moderately injured, and both were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.

According to a hospital spokesman, Hager was treated and released, and Sanders was in satisfactory condition as of July 29.

Both Sanders and Hager were wearing Missouri Department of Transportation-approved safety helmets, and both motorcycles were moderately damaged, the report said.
