An Arnold man and a Festus man were hurt Thursday morning (Oct. 12) in a four-vehicle accident on I-55 south of Butler Hill Road in south St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

At 6:55 a.m., Jacob R. Smith, 26, of Arnold was driving a 2010 GMC Sierra north on I-55 where he “failed to keep a proper lookout” and rear-ended a northbound 2005 Toyota Camry that had slowed for traffic congestion ahead, causing a chain reaction, the report said.

When the Serra struck the Camry, it was pushed forward and struck a northbound 2004 Dodge Ram. Then, the Sierra, Camry and Ram ran off the right side of the road, where the Sierra struck a concrete barrier, according to the report.

The three vehicles then returned to the roadway, and the front left corner of the Ram struck the rear of a northbound 2016 Toyota Corolla, the report said.

Nicholas J. Kronlage, 24, of Festus was driving the Camry, James T. Lovelace, 55, of Festus was driving the Ram, and Dale K. Pounds, 56, of Festus was driving the Corolla.

No injures were reported for Lovelace or Pounds.

However, Kronlage was seriously hurt, and Smith sustained minor injuries, and both men were taken by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, according to the report.

All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The Sierra and Camry were totaled, the Ram was extensively damaged, and the Corolla sustained minor damage, the report said.
