A FedEx truck that turned into a driveway at a villa in unincorporated Fenton on Sept. 6 failed to stop and ran into the front of the home, damaging the garage and front entry.
Chief Bob Dunn of the Saline Valley Fire Protection District said the district was called at 4:16 p.m. to the 100 block of Samarra Estates Drive, where the villa is located.
He said the villa is vacant and no one was inside the building at the time of the crash.
The truck driver was transported to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton by the Rock Township Ambulance District, Dunn said.
Ramona Bowen, who lives next door, said she heard the crash.
“It sounded like a big truck rolling over. I told my husband that sounds like a bad accident,” she said.
Bowen went outside and saw “the driver staggering out of the truck.”
“Then an ambulance came,” she said.
Firefighters used lumber posts to support the garage roof “so when they pulled the truck out of the garage, it wouldn’t continue to collapse,” Dunn said.
The villa’s owner, Sue Schnider, arrived on the scene a short time after the crash. She said no package was to be delivered to the home.
She said the villa was for sale and had a contract on it, but now repairs will have to be completed.
“It’s going to cost me a whole lot of money,” she said.
