Retired Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Alan Kirk Ainley, 64, of Fenton died just after 6 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 14) when a tree fell on a car he was riding in on Hwy. 21 about 3 miles west of Glover, authorities reported
The Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that Alan Ainley was a deputy from Sept. 15, 1987, until his retirement on May 22, 2012.
At 6:09 p.m. Tuesday, he was a passenger in a 2021 Kia Forte that Diana M. Ainley, 56, of Fenton was driving south on the highway, where the tree fell onto the car, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Diana Ainley had minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Iron County Medical Center in Pilot Knob, the report said.
Alan Ainley was pronounced dead at the scene Iron County Coroner Tim Harbison.
He was not wearing a seat belt, and Diana Ainley was wearing one, the patrol reported.
The Kia was totaled, the report said.
