A woman from Ste. Genevieve was injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon (April 17) on I-55 south of Festus.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Lindsay Carter, 30, of Ste. Genevieve was driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra in the right lane of southbound I-55 north of Hwy. TT at 12:29 p.m. when she ran into the back of a trailer hauled by a southbound 2021 Freightliner driven by Everett Jones, 54, of Hernando, Miss. The front end of the Nissan hit the back end of the trailer a second time, then the Nissan went into the left lane, went off the left side of the road and hit the cable median barrier before crossing the median and into the northbound lanes of I-55, the report said.

Carter sustained moderate injuries and was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, the report said.

An update on her condition was not available.

The report made no mention of an injury to Jones.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the report said. The Nissan was totaled while the tractor-trailer had minor damage.
