A St. Louis woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after she was involved in a two-vehicle traffic accident Saturday (May 22) on the I-55 West Outer Road north of Main Street in Imperial.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the 61-year-old St. Louis woman was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze north in the southbound lanes of the outer road at 8:55 p.m. A 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Chrislyn Stout, 20, of Imperial, was headed south in the southbound lanes and Stout swerved left to avoid a collision. The driver of the Chevrolet then swerved right, and the front of the Chevrolet hit the front of the Pontiac.

The patrol report made no mention of an injury to the driver of the Chevrolet, but a passenger in her vehicle, Donna Furke, 79, of Arnold, sustained moderate injuries.

Stout also suffered moderate injuries, and two passengers in the Pontiac, Natalie Mathews, 20, of Wildwood and Haylie Lay, 22, of Arnold, had minor injuries.

All were taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

Updates on their conditions were not available.

The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested by patrol officers on suspicion of four counts of driving while intoxicated with physical injury.

She will not be named unless she is charged with a crime by the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The patrol reported that all involved in the accident were wearing seat belts with the exception of the driver of the Chevrolet, which the report said it is unknown whether she was wearing one. The Pontiac was totaled while the Chevrolet had extensive damage, the report said.
