An Arnold woman was injured Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23, in a traffic accident involving an SUV and a big rig at Hwy. 61-67 and Linderhof Drive in Arnold, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 2:30 p.m., Carol A. Roberts, 79, of Arnold was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox west on Linderhof Drive and while trying to turn left onto southbound Hwy. 61-67, she “failed to clear the intersection,” and the front of a 2005 Peterbilt 357 headed south on the highway struck the right side of the SUV, the report said.
Phillip T. Smith, 54, of Cadet was driving the big rig. No injuries were reported for him.
Roberts was seriously injured and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County, where she was listed in critical condition as of Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, a hospital spokesman said.
She was not wearing a seat belt, and Smith was wearing one, the patrol reported.
The SUV was extensively damaged, and the big rig sustained minor damage, the report said.
