A pickup crashed into the entryway at the Express Mart convenience store, 999 W. Gannon Drive, in Festus this morning (Feb. 13), following a two-vehicle accident nearby on Hwy. A, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
He said the Police Department got a call at 5:13 a.m. about the incident.
Lewis said Lilly Barnes, 21, of Festus was driving a 2011 Ford Focus west on Hwy. A and while trying to turn left on West Gannon Drive, drove into the path of the eastbound pickup – a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Michael Jaskiewicz, 49, of Festus.
“They collided and (the Focus) spun around a couple times and stopped in the road,” Lewis said. “The pickup lost control, ran onto the Express Mart lot, struck a pump and struck the building.”
He said both drivers refused medical treatment and neither one is being cited for or charged with any offense.
Lewis said both vehicles had front-end damage.
The Festus Fire Department reported that the gas station was closed after the incident. However, it reopened later in the day.
Express Mart representatives could not be reached for a response.
