A Bonne Terre man died Tuesday morning, May 10, when he was a passenger in an SUV that collided with a van at highways 67 and CC south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Robert H. Davidson, 61, of Bonne Terre was a passenger in a 2017 Jeep Cherokee driven by George G. Leachman, 68, of Bonne Terre when the accident occurred at about 10:10 a.m. Leachman reportedly failed to stop at a flashing red light at the intersection, and the front right side struck the front left side of a northbound 2013 Ford E-Series van driven by John C. Dawson, 45, of Farmington, who had stopped at the flashing red light before proceeding through the intersection, the report said.

After the collision, both vehicles overturned, and Davidson was ejected from the SUV. He was pronounced dead at 10:24 a.m., according to the report.

Leachman was moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in satisfactory condition this afternoon, May 11, a hospital spokesman said.

Dawson was moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where he was treated and released, the report said.

Davidson was not wearing a seat belt, and Dawson and Leachman were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The van and SUV were totaled, according to the report.
