A Luebbering man was killed and a Dittmer man and a High Ridge child were seriously injured Friday evening (Feb. 26) in a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 30 west of Adele Drive west of Dittmer, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:27 p.m., Joseph R. Austin, 63, of Luebbering was driving a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 east on the highway, crossed the center of the road, and the front left side of the pickup struck the front left side of a westbound 2020 Jeep Cherokee and then the S-10 continued on, and the front of it struck a westbound 2000 Dodge Dakota head-on, the report said.
John W. Schmiedeskamp, 48, of Grubville was driving the Jeep, and Shawn M. Ferris, 33, of Dittmer was driving the Dakota.
Austin was pronounced dead at the scene by Big River Ambulance personnel.
Ferris and a passenger in the Dakota – an 11-year-old boy – were taken by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Schmiedeskamp.
Austin and Ferris were not wearing seat belts, and the boy and Schmiedeskamp were wearing them, the patrol reported.
Both the S-10 and the Dakota were totaled, and the Jeep was extensively damaged, the report said.
