Two children and two adults were injured Friday evening, July 7, in a head-on accident on Hwy. B south of Kempa Road west of Hillsboro, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:41 p.m., Kurt W. Wengert, 47, of Hillsboro was driving a 2013 Buick Lacrosse north on the highway, began to slide on wet pavement and ran off the right side of the road before overcorrecting and returning to the highway, where the car crossed the double yellow center line and struck a southbound 2017 Dodge Journey SUV head-on, the report said.
Christina M. Acton, 41, of Catawissa was driving the SUV. No injuries were reported for her.
However, Wengert sustained minor injuries, and a 14-year-old Hillsboro boy riding in the car was moderately injured.
In addition, two passengers in the SUV – Angelica L. Frye, 36, of House Springs and a 6-year-old Catawissa girl – were moderately injured, the report said.
Wengert and the 14-year-old boy were taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City.
Frye was taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, and the 6-year-old girl was taken by private conveyance to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, according to the report.
An update on their conditions was not available today, July 8.
All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts or using other safety devices, the patrol said.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged, the report said.
