A St. Peters man died Wednesday night, Aug. 30, following a motorcycle crash on Hwy. 30 west of Delores Drive in the Murphy area in unincorporated Fenton. A Wentzville man was seriously injured in the accident, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 10:15 p.m., Lyle J. Skinner, 50, of Wentzville was riding a 2000 Special Motorcycle east on the highway and stopped for a changing traffic light, and John R. Morgan, 58, of St. Peters, who was riding an eastbound 2002 Harley-Davidson Softail behind the other bike, struck the rear of it. Both riders were ejected, the report said.
Morgan and Skinner were taken by North Jefferson County Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where Morgan was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m., the report said.
Skinner was listed in satisfactory condition this afternoon, Aug. 31, a hospital spokesman said.
According to the report, Skinner was wearing a helmet, and Morgan was not wearing one, or at least not a Department of Transportation-approved one.
Both motorcycles were totaled, the report said.
