A Jackson man was hurt Sunday afternoon (Feb. 24) in a three-vehicle accident on I-55 north of Hwy. A in the Festus area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 2:50 p.m., Joseph S. Perez, 47, of Jackson was driving a 2008 Toyota Yaris north on I-55 and failed to keep a proper lookout before the front of the Yaris struck the rear of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado stopped ahead for another wreck. That collision caused the Silverado to slide forward and strike a 2013 Ford C-Max that also was stopped for the previous accident, the report said.

Daniel L. Walker, 52, of Festus was driving the Silverado, and Miranda K. Ohaleck, 33, of Festus was driving the C-Max. No injuries were reported for them.

However, Perez was moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The Yaris was totaled, the Silverado was moderately damaged and the C-Max had minor damage, the report said.
