An Imperial man and a St. Louis man were hurt Thursday morning (March 28) in a five-vehicle accident on I-270 south of Marshall Road near Kirkwood in St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 8:48 a.m., Joshua P. McNamara, 31, of Imperial was driving a 2007 Ford Focus north on I-270 and tried to stop for slowed traffic ahead but was unable to, and the front of the car struck the rear of a northbound 2009 Chevrolet Impala, the report said.

The impact of that collision caused the left front of the Impala to strike the passenger side of a northbound 2014 Ford Explorer, and then the front of the Explorer struck the rear of a northbound 2013 Lexus RX350, according to the report.

Then, the front of a northbound 2018 Chevrolet Traverse struck the rear of the Focus, the report said.

James A. Catanzaro, 55, of St. Louis was driving the Impala; Christopher S. Hanner, 34, of St. Louis was driving the Explorer; Travis R. Burch, 46, of Fenton was driving the RX350, and Doris A. Steinbecker, 55, of Perryville was driving the Traverse, according to the report.

McNamara and Hanner were moderately injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where they were treated and released.

No other injuries were reported.

Neither Catanzaro nor Burch was wearing a seat belt, but the rest of the drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The Focus was extensively damaged; the Impala and Explorer were moderately damaged; and the RX350 and Traverse had minor damage, the report said.
