Missouri state highway patrol patch

An Imperial man who was riding a motorcycle was seriously injured at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23) on Hwy. 21, just south of Hwy. 141, west of Arnold, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

The patrol reported that Kevin D. Underwood, 29, headed north on a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, struck the rear of an SUV that had slowed for traffic, and then was thrown from the motorcycle and struck by a big rig.

He was taken by Rock Township Ambulance District to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County, where he was reported in good condition early this afternoon (Sept. 24).

The patrol reported that Deanna B. Arvey, 49, of Arnold, driving the SUV, a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, northbound on Hwy. 21, had slowed for traffic ahead when the rear of her SUV was struck by the front of the Harley.

The motorcycle then traveled into the lane to the left, and Underwood was thrown from it and was struck by the big rig, a Freightliner driven by David L. Surface, 49, of Cadet, the report said.

The patrol did not report any injuries for the other two drivers.

The report said Underwood was wearing a helmet, and the other drivers were wearing seat belts.

The Harley sustained extensive damage and the SUV minor damage, and the big rig had no damage, the report said.
