Mark Leuther, 64, of Imperial man was injured Monday morning (July 1) in a one-vehicle accident on I-55 south of the 183.8 mile marker between Pevely and Barnhart, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.

At 11:59 a.m., Leuther was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer north on the interstate when he suffered a medical emergency, and while he attempted to pull onto the right shoulder, the SUV ran off the right side of the road, struck a rock bluff and overturned, the report said.

Leuther was moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was in good condition Tuesday (July 2), a hospital spokesman said.

He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The SUV was extensively damaged, the report said.
