A 48-year-old Imperial man and a 53-year-old Barnhart woman were hurt Monday morning (July 15) in a two-vehicle accident on Imperial Main Street at I-55, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 11:05 a.m., the Imperial man was driving an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet 1500 and allegedly ran a red light, and the left side of the pickup struck the rear left side of a westbound 2009 Jeep Liberty driven by Carol L. Newman, 53, of Barnhart, who was attempting to turn left at the signal, the report said.

The Imperial man was moderately injured and taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

Newman had minor injuries and was taken by Rock Township to Mercy Hospital South.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The pickup was totaled, and the Jeep was extensively damaged, the report said.
