A 30-year-old Imperial man was cited for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident after he was driving a Jeep along Hwy. 141 in Arnold and reportedly ran off the road and knocked over two Missouri Department of Transportation signs. The incident happened at about 6 p.m. May 22, Arnold Police reported.

After police found the man, he reportedly told them that he was on Hwy. 141 and wanted to exit onto southbound I-55 but had gotten into the wrong lane, so as he was trying to change lanes, he noticed a car pulling in front of him and swerved to avoid the other car. The man said that because he was trying to avoid a collision with the other car, he ran off the road and hit the MoDOT signs, the report said.

The man reportedly left the scene of the accident. However, police followed a trail of fluid to the 1500 block of West Outer Road, where they found the man, along with 1999 Jeep Cherokee he had been driving. The Jeep had damage to the front passenger side and its undercarriage, according to the report.

Arnold Police did not have an estimate for the damage to the MoDOT signs. The man was issued a summons to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for leaving the scene of an accident, Capt. Rich Shular said.
