This dump truck overturned in De Soto, shutting down a section of Hwy. 21.

The section of Hwy. 21 from Hwy 110 to Hwy. Y in De Soto was shut down for two hours Monday afternoon, May 22, following an accident involving a dump truck that rolled over and leaked diesel fuel. No one was injured in the crash, which happened on Hwy. 21 in front of Iron Integrity gym, authorities reported.

De Soto Police officers were dispatched to the accident at 2:40 p.m., Capt. Jeffery Wynn said.

He said the driver of a northbound passenger vehicle stopped to make a left turn off Hwy. 21 and a 70-year-old De Soto man driving a northbound 1989 Ford L8000 dump truck swerved to the right to avoid a collision. The truck struck a ditch and overturned on its passenger side.

Wynn said a lot of diesel fuel leaked into the drainage ditch.

The Jefferson County Hazmat Team, De Soto Fire Department, De Soto Rural Fire Protection District and Valle Ambulance District responded to the scene.
