Tara N. Kelam, 22, of Hillsboro died Monday (June 22) from injuries she sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 21 at the 172.2 mile marker just south of Goldman and north of Hillsboro, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.
Cpl. Dallas Thompson said Kelam’s family told the highway patrol that Kelam was missing and they were searching for her when they found her, along with the pickup she had been driving, off the side of the highway and down an embankment.
Thompson said that based on when Kelam went missing, the patrol estimated she crashed the 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup around 1:30 a.m. Monday, and she was found and pronounced dead several hours later, at about 8:35 p.m. that day.
According to the patrol, Kelam was driving the pickup south on the highway and ran off the right side of the road and down a steep embankment, where the pickup struck several large boulders and overturned, ejecting her.
Kelam was pronounced dead on the scene by ambulance personnel, the report said.
She was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The pickup was totaled, the report said.
