A Hillsboro man and a Fenton man were seriously injured Monday night (Aug. 24) in an ATV accident on Rice Road east of Marble Springs Road northeast of Hillsboro, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 8 p.m., Travis J. Gemmel, 27, of Hillsboro was riding a 2016 Polaris RZR all-terrain vehicle east on Rice Road, and it slid on gravel and ran off the right side of the road and down an embankment, where the four-wheeler struck a rock and a tree, causing the ATV to overturn and the roof to strike a tree, the report said.
Gemmel was taken by Plattin-Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where he was listed in satisfactory condition today (Aug. 26), a hospital spokeswoman said.
A passenger on the ATV – Kyle P. Leckrone, 24, of Fenton – was taken by helicopter to Mercy St. Louis, where he was listed in critical condition on Tuesday (Aug. 25), the spokeswoman said.
Neither man was using a safety device, the patrol reported.
The four-wheeler was totaled, the report said.
