Nicholas S. Murray, 37, of Herculaneum was seriously hurt Thursday morning (Sept. 13) when he was running across the ramp from northbound I-55 to Imperial Main Street and was struck by a car, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Before he was struck, Murray was being transported by Abbott Ambulance, got out of the ambulance and took off running, said Dallas Thompson, a Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman.
The accident happened at 5:30 a.m., when Jaclyn M. Bodkin, 36, of Herculaneum was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo north on the ramp, and Murray ran in front of the car, which struck him, the patrol reported.
Murray was then taken by Rock Township Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in satisfactory condition this afternoon (Sept. 14), a hospital spokesman said.
No injuries were reported for Bodkin. She was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The car had minor damage, the report said.
Traffic on northbound I-55 in the area was congested for some time following the accident.
